Problem with the floor vents on my E320.

I did a search but was unable to come up with anything on my own. My 1997 E320 doesn't seem to blow heat at the vents by the centre console that blow towards your feet. I usually have it set at auto, but even using the manual controls on the climate control, it does not seem to adjust the flapper to direct heat towards your feet. Then after leaving the car for a while sometimes, it will work fine. It has not been to bad lately 0 degress Celsius, but when it drops down to -15 it gets pretty cold on the feet.

Any ideas,
Steve

It is freezing here now (-26 Celsius) and my vents by my feet still aren't working properly. There are no codes stored in the climate control unit. It is like the flapper controls are not working when the temperature drops below -15. When you leave the car off for a couple of minutes and come back it seems to work properly. I have even tried setting the climate control without using the auto feature and directing the air to your feet. That doesn't even work. Is there a feature that makes it so the defrost automatically takes priority at a certain outside temperature?

Thanks in advance.
Steve

I got it fixed.

With help from previous posts on this forum and mbworld.org I was finally able to fix it. It was the rubber hose connection behind the oil filter that connects to the gray hose that leads to the junction box on the passenger side fender. I don't know how long the hose had been disconnected but the head was off last March by the Benz dealership. It could have even came disconnected during an oil change. I was getting nervous about what kind of bill I might have coming to me to fix the complicated (yet simple) system.

Thanks again,
Steve
