1992 m103 cold start issue
 

Happy New Year Guys!

Been having an increasingly harder time to start first thing in the morning. Seems only on 1st startup of the day. The colder the day, the longer it takes for the engine to fire. Only on first start of the day, rest of the day is fine it seems.

I turn key only and wait for engine to fire and catch, no gas pedal. Sometimes seems to take 30 secs or more of cranking.

Car runs well, no idle issues, no misses. Its more an annoyance than anything but not sure if one day it will crank for ever and not fire.

Have you tried the EHA adjustment? do a search. I recently did it and it greatly improved cold starting.

I searched and saw a post from Norm (Nglitz) on how to adjust the EHA

Is that the adjustment you tried? Was your cold start worse on the colder days as well?

Seems fairly easy to try.

that's the one. it takes about 5 minutes. wear goggles or turn your head away because it will squirt gas when you loosen the screws securing the EHA (don't smoke or do this around open flame either, and do it with engine cold). it fixed a problem where car wouldn't start until after a couple of tries on cold engine starts, and would idle real rough for a minute or two when first started with cold engine. i really don't live in a cold climate.

coolant temp sensor?
 

Also heard it could be a sensor.

Not sure which one. Like to order one from fastlane, can someone verify which one relates to the fuel issue I have so I can order the right one.

water temp sensor wiring?
 

Hi Guys,

Phil @ fastlane told me it was the water temp sensor. Received it yesterday, seems like there is no keying for the wire connector. Only thing I see is one pin has a 2 beside it?

Can it be hooked up any which way? Anyone know whether it matters? If so, which way is correct?

Note: water temp sensor is the one with 4 pins

Those pins are set to be used in diagonal! Meaning if you numbered them aroung the circle pins 1-4. Pin 1 and 3 would be for one reading and 3 and 4 for the other. Both sets show the same thing, so it does not matter how you plug it in really.

I guess this is a water connection, don't see an o-ring or anything, teflon tape on the threads???

I just put it in! Mine was a two pronger though. Had a tappered head to seal if I remember correctly.
