190E 2.3 Steering Wheel Adjustment

Is there a way to adjust the steering wheel on the 1993 190E? Ours appears to be too low and the only way to get near enough room for the drivers legs is to drop the seat to the lowest position and then to back the seat away from the wheel.

The car is new to us so I may be overlooking something. If there is no adjustment readily available to the driver... then is there a way I can shim the shaft to a higher position?

This is an important issue for us so any contribution will be most appriciated.

Thanks. :)

I think you’re stuck with it! I have a ’92 190/2.3 and I love the car dearly… but the manual seat adjustment is ill conceived and barbaric.

Yes, the seat will have to be as low as it can go in order for the driver to be comfortable.

Sorry to be the bearer of bad news.

The W201 did not have "tilt" or fore & aft adjustable steering wheels. Other than lowering the seat is to switch to a different steering wheel, which is easier if you have the non-airbag wheel.

Is it possible to raise the angle of the whole steering column... say at the point where the column bolts to the dash frame?

If not, are there smaller optional steering wheels that will fit the 190?

or... I could cut the bottom half of the wheel off!

Get a hold of a Sportline steering wheel for the 190. It was smaller than the standard one.
