420 Suddenly Dies
Hey Guys,
A weird thing has just started with my wife's 89 420 SEL. So far it has died 5 times, and restarts instantly. This week, 4 times while the engine has run about 10 minutes, it suddenly dies, dead. It restarts instantly, no spiting or sputtering, starts and runs smooth as silk. Today whle driving for about an hour and doing about 35 mph it dies. She pulled over quickly and it starts instantly and ran for another hour till we got home without any problems. It's weird, no dash light to say whats wrong. when it dies suddenly, there are no dash error lights. The most visible is the economy gauge which falls quickly, but thats all. Any ideas? |

Just some Guesses
It could be loosing the spark, centre plug wire could be loose or broken. Coil wiring should be checked for loose wire. Another thought is the fuel relay, could it be loose, or loosing power? Also if that round plug that goes into the ezl in the drivers' side of the engine compartment, will make it stop. Electrical problems are sometimes simply fixed by rotating the fuses.

It sounds like fuel pump relay, it is behind the firewall in the engine compartment.
Thanks
