Torque on 16v TC tensioner?
Howdy,
Can anybody tell me the proper torque spec for the new style (allen bolt center) timing chain tensioner on the 2.3-16v? I need it for both the inside and outside pieces. Any other info on re-installing this unit would be helpful-i can't find anything in the manual on this latest style of tensioner. gracias, dan |
The tensioner to the block is 40NM & the closing cap is 15NM. Good luck!

hey doc,
Do you have to "prime" the tensioner before screwing the body into the block? That is, do you put the plunger into the body one or two clicks before putting the whole thing into the block, or do you just screw in the body, then put the plunger/spring/cap assembly in seperately? thanks, dan |
Dan,
I believe the body goes in, then the plunger set on the first click. That is where I set mine. The whole point of the ratchet design is to prevent the chain from becoming loose w/o oil pressure. If it is not set at the first click, what prevents the chain from slapping around on the initial start up? Be prepared for a bit of a fight trying to get the plunger started in the body of the tensioner, especially if you replaced the chain and rails ;(. Tinker |
Hum. I put the body with pluger in at the same time (set 2 or 3 clicks), and the bugger is WAY too tight. I'll pull it out and re-install as follows:
1. Body 2. Plunger (one click) 3. Cap/spring/plastic insert making sure to torque everything to spec. thanks guys, dan |
