changing from DOT3 to DOT4

Hi,

Is there any problem changing the brake fluid from a DOT3 to a DOT4?

My Xterra currently has DOT3 in the brake system and I would like to change it to a DOT4.

Thank you.

No problem going from DOT# to DOT4. It's when you go to DOT5 when you have a problem.

Fluids ???

Is DOT-4-Plus the same as DOT-4 or DOT-5 ? If it's different; in what way? My '94 E320 Cabriolet owner's manual calls for DOT-4-Plus.

Careful when you start talking about DOT 5. This is silicone and is not compatible with any other brake fluid.

DOT 3, DOT 4, and DOT 5.1 are glycol-based and are compatible with each other. The difference among the three - as I understand it - has to do with dry and wet boiling points, with the higher DOT numbers given to the better performing fluids.

I'm not sure what is DOT 4+. I'm guessing it's a top quality DOT 4. I simply use DOT 4 in my Cabriolet.

Thanks Kestas, That's what I thought about the issue too.
