Replacing combination switch in '86 300E - DIY job?
The windshield wiper / turn signal switch on our '86 300E is broken beyond repair, and needs to be replaced. Is this something I can do myself, or should I take it to a shop?
Is there a tutorial anywhere about how to do this safely? I'm most concerned about damaging or activating the airbag... Any tips? Thanks, Mika |

Don't worry too much about the airbag. Check out the attached file. Be careful not to strip the 10mm hex fastener that holds the steering wheel on. After the steering wheel is off, you'll need to remove the black ring that holds the switch to the column, and then the underdash panel.

Thanks for the info! Can the cruise control switch be replaced easily at the same time, or does that require more effort?
Thanks, Mika |
 What the heck is a "fillister" screw?
|
Fillister refers to the shape of the head. They are generally slimmer, but deeper than a standard pan-head screw. Dimensionally, the head looks very much like a cap screw, but fillisters gnerally have a philips or standard slot head (not hex).
