Where can I get a good used/rebuilt odometer?

My odometer decided to crap out on me the other day. Any ideas as to where I can get a used or rebuilt one?

If its an older one, you can fix it with a drop of green 290 locktite. Not red nor blue but green 290. Using the following link, scroll down to figures 11 & 15. You don't need to take everything apart, just pull the speedo and find the gear on the shaft. Use a toothpick and place a drop of green locktite on the shaft so it wicks between the gear and the shaft. Let it cure and you are good to go.

If it is a newer one, Ida Know.

It would really help to know what model and year car you have. There are repair shops that will do work on VDO gauges, but most that I have seen are pretty expensive. It may be cheaper to look for replacements on Ebay or at breaker yards. Most VDO mechanical odometers have a design fault, usually the mounting of the gears, that make the suseptible to breaking. Mercedes, Porsche, Volvo and BMW owners pretty much share the grief.

One tip to lengthen the live of any VDO trip odometer . . . don't do a reset while the car is moving.
