Things I hate about my 124 300te
 

I have a beautifully maintained 1989 300te...It has been mine for about a year. Let's see if you all have solutions for the following:
1. I hate the seats...hard/ flat/ short (doesn't reach out to my knees)...but mostly hard and flat
2. The car leans/ rolls big time on turns...you had better hold on or you are going to fly across the car
3. Headlights suck...point blank! I am old...I need more light at night.
4. When I went to change a tire, I see that inside the jack hole...it is looking like rust...seems to be a whole cavity in there...I also see that OTHER 124's rust there...
Well, go to work guys...give me some answers.

the euro headlights are a great mod. vast improvement. do some searches. you can also get sportline seats or install some aftermarket seats, neither would be cheap. you can upgrade to larger sway bars which will greatly reduce body roll. or springs and shocks if you want to go all out. personally, I have another car for sporting driving (race seats & suspension) so I have left my 300E stock, plus the Benz requires so much $ for maint./repairs that I have no money to upgrade it (except for the euro lights which I got dirt cheap).

1) Upgrade to 124 leather seats (different design) or even sportline/500E seats.
2)Rebuild the suspension. Or get under it and find out what part is worn out. Try the search function.
3)Put Euros on her. Much improved visibility. H4s in the euros if they are not enough on there own. I also have additional Hellas installed.
4)Get someone to look at the jack hole asap. I suck at body work.

All very expensive options. The Euros aren't too bad if you pick up some knock-offs on eBay, which would work. Cheapest thing to do is live w/ it, as always. :rolleyes:

I don't think the leather seats are any different, other than in the stitch pattern of the material. You could try sheepskins, with foam underneath, or even contoured foam underneath.

I have a 300TE from 92, and I agree with you, except the seats are fine for me. Regarding 2), you could install 500E or sportline sway bars and bushings, that seems to help a lot.

The rolling and pitching can be improved more than you'd think by refreshing your sway bar bushings (front & rear) as well as the links on the ends of the rear sway bar (that attach to the lower control arms). Further, if your shocks are older than 100k miles, they aren't what they used to be and you'd notice the difference (same thing as regards the rear air cells, which handle most of the rear dampening).

I've got an '88 TE with 242k (original engine & trans, though the trans is gona get rebuilt in the spring before it strands me) miles and I just renewed everything I've mentioned; the rear sway bar "links" made the biggest difference, since one was really shot in my case.

No you do not neead an alignment for end links or sway bars.
