Creaking Front Wheel
My right front wheel area is producing a creaking / groaning / scratching sound rather unpleasantly...here's the circumstances:
If I TURN the wheel, while travelling at very slow speeds (as during parking or turning at a corner from a full stop). It is only evident if wheels are being made to turn, either direction. Doesnt seem to be brakes-related, although the scratchy sound made me think so originally, but applying / de-applying brakes makes no diff. Would it be a failing (de-lubed) ball joint? It's almost certainly something that is part of steering, and seems to need lube-ing. Any thoughts well appreciated Thanks Last edited by OTTOBUN; 01-12-2005 at 04:13 PM. |

I dont know your car but have you looked at the idler arm especially the mounting on the frame My 89 SL did that and it never did it in the shop except once

You may want to give a close inspection to the front end assembly. Could be several worn items. Mine was making a noise like you described and it turned out to be a failing lower ball joint. If the right side is that worn the left is not too far behind.
