79 240D engine compression
My mechanic told me my 240D engine has no compression and I should get a new one unstead of rebuilding the old one. He quoted me 2000.00. Does this seem right? Anyone know where (in So. cal) to get an engine? thanks

No compression? What were the symptoms? You might want a second opinion. These engines don't usually just loose compression overnight. Unless, did it overheat, run with no oil? Did someone put gas instead of diesel in the tank?
$2000 sounds cheap for a "new" engine. Installed? Would he happen to have one FS? You might post on the Diesel Discussion Forum. There's alot of good folks there. I'm sure someone in your So.Cal area there can help. Good Luck, Dan |

Thanks Dan
I just got it towed back here today and I will get a second opinion. The symptoms were none. One day it just wouldn't start. It turns over, but doesn't fire. I replaced the glow plubs and the relay.
