Power Seat Malfunction
1989 300E
I have noticed that the seatbelt warning light remains on all the time. What would this be caused by and how would I resolved this issue? Secondly, the powered passenger seatback adjusts for recline position but will not incline back to a vertical position. All other functions of the seat are fully operation. How would one diagnose this problem? Many thanks in advance for any assistance that may be offered. Kind regards, Keen |
The seat will probably not move because one of the B-B's or springs in the fussy switch on the door has slipped out of place. The switch can be removed easily. If you can find a switch in a junkyard, this would be ideal, but if not, you MIGHT be able to get it working again. The switch on my '90 rewquired a lot of fiddling to get the seat in position, but eventually I found out how it works on this Forum and bought a new switch and now it works perfectly. This is an expensive switch, but easily replaced by the owner.
Do a search on "Power seat switch" in this Forum. Lots of info is here. The seat belt problem is probably unrelated, and I would guess that a faulty sensor is to blame. Good luck! |
I have cleaned all my switches and has taken care of all the seat issues. Just take your time prying the case open , have lots of light and an area where springs and little ball bearings won't get misplaced and clean away. You can use an ink eraser on all the contacts, clean off grunge with degreaser of some sort.
You will see that the little switches are an amazing piece of work. Good Luck |
