I'm planning to remove the valve cover gasket on my 1991 M103 (to replace the valve guide seals) and was wondering if the gasket should go back on dry or use gasket sealer, and if so what kind. I have some Ultra Blue silicone that works good.

valve cover gasket

If your valve cover gasket is more then three month old replace it with new one. hope this help

I already bought a new gasket. I have the service CD but I couldn't find anything about it. I also couldn't find the torque specs for it, does anybody know what they are?

I used to have a 190e 2.3 euro, when I replaced the valve cover gasket, I put it on dry and torqued the bolts to 11 ft-lbs.

Should go on dry. Make sure both surfaces are clean and dry. Do not overtighten!! This will distort the valve cover and it will leak for sure..

Is there a way to replace valve seals by just removing the valve cover?

Sixto, to replace valve seals, valve cover has to come off. Also valve springs and keepers as well. You will need valve spring compressor and air chuck adapter to blow compressed air into the cylinders to keep the valves shut whilst removing springs and replacing seals.

Oh. On an M117, I haven't found a tool that will allow me to replace the valve seals with the head attached. Is there a special tool to do what you described on a M103 or will a generic American V8 in situ compressor work? I've never looked under my M103 valve cover. This is more out of curiosity since I suspect my head gasket is leaking
