Would someone go to Ebay #515135881, click on the engine thumbnail and tell me if you see a trap oxidizer on the car?
The text said there was a new trap oxidizer put on at 124,xxx miles. I wouldn't think the trap oxidizers were available anymore if they a replaced with a new exhaust system. Yes, I am thinking of buying this car. What is a realistic price? TIA P E H |
Just looked at the pictures, it appears there is no trap oxidizer. I have only seen one, on a 1987 300D Turbo, and the trap was a fairly large item, nestled between the engine and right fender.
I have been watching and pricing 300SD's and SDL's for the last couple of months as I plan to get one. 300SDL's with comparable mileage in California are fetching $12,000+. There is a 300SDL posted in Trader On-line, just under 100,000 miles, they're asking $57,000, a bit unrealistic. |

There are a few 300SDL's for sale in the Baltimore area. I could check them out, if you are seriously interested. You can serach the newspaer, The Baltimore Sun by going to sunspot.net I saw two 1987 cooSDL's for around $7,000. They had about 175k-200k. Let me know if you need help. ARI |
The picture shows a trap oxidizer replacement pipe. In addition, the front exhaust pipe is also replaced by an oxidation catalyst/front pipe assembly and that is it. That is different from the 87 300D which gets the entire exhaust system replaced including a new muffler and a new center resonator. I believe the Catalyst replacement letter started in December 1996.
It is hard to say what price you should pay for it. In my opinion, a used SDL is usually overpriced when I compare it to other diesel models. But some days, I may buy one if the price is right for me. Just keep in mind that the rebuild engine is 8000 to 12000 dollar and a new head job is about $1500 - 2000. David |
