my wife's 1988-300sel has a cruise switch that is "dislodged" from it's operational position(it flops around). the car is equipped with an airbag in the steering wheel. I know the cost of a new switch is reasonable but how do I remove and replace it?

Do a quick search for cruise control switch to see some recent discussions. I just did this job last weekend. You have to remove the airbag (quick and easy -- star drive bolts on the back and disconnect the battery), the steering wheel (10mm alan wrench and a good breaker bar), and the under dash cover must be removed to thread the cable and plug it into the control unit of the CC. Good luck.

Thanks-through conversations such as these, we all gain the confidence we need and the education necessary to enjoy our fine automobiles more. I took your advise and read more about it. Now I need to order the part--thanks.

Nick,
If you're a member of the MBCA (mercedes benz club of america most dealers will give you a 10% or more discount on parts. By far the best discount is from Tom Hanson at Caliber Motors in CA. 800-252-6877. I have paid for my membership many times over with that discount. |
