1960's era Bosch Horns
Hello Friends,
I'm new to this group spending most of my time at www.sl113.org. I have a fully restored 113 that is getting the final bits of restoration done. Isn't it always the last 5% that take 95% of the time!!?? A duplicate of this post has been placed in the Vintage Mercedes forum on this site as well. Anyway, I have obtained a set of original horns to replace the non-Bosch repro horns I got from Miller's that look good; sound good but don't fool anyone in a Concours! However these original horns need to be cosmetically restored; they work well I'm told, they just don't look like the rest of the car. I have found a set of new reproduction data tags from Will Samples of S&S Imports. I have heard from several people, DO NOT take the horns apart. Well, short of finding some affordable NOS horns that are appropriate to this car, taking them apart is what needs to be done to restore them (prep and powder coat). Question: has anybody actually taken apart a set of Bosch horns from 1960's era Mercedes; restored them via paint/powder coat; and successfully put them back together again? If so, can you enlighten me? Somebody must have this knowledge; the high end restorations certainly have original parts on them and certainly have restored horns.
