What would you do?

I recently had the Power steering pump replaced by my MB dealer. I had orinally brought the car in because of a leak, and had the assumption that it was the clamp. They told me the entire pump needed to be replaced. 3 Months later i notice a whining sound on a cold day. After searching here i find out that the sound may be caused by low PS fluid levels. I go home add MB PS fluid, took about 20ml to fill. An low an behold problem corrected. Should i take this back to the dealer or what?

By all means question the dealer about the situation. It's not surprising that the tech took the most expensive approach even if it didn't fix the real problem. Many techs simply throw parts at a problem and lack true diagnostic ability.

Almost 99% of the times I visit the dealership, they recommend replacing some expensive part instead of fixing the errant component within.

They once quoted $750 for replacing the steering pump on my W124 for a leaking problem when in fact, my indie solved it with about $15 worth of a seal kit...

I knew it was a clamp problem and i let them replace the pump just so i wouldnt have any issues. Now its gotta go back, and they better have a loaner ready!

MB dealers all are crooks, if not all indipendent dealerships! IMHO
