300E Blower Motor

Hey All

My heater blower motor just quit. Nothing funny or erratic, just quit. The only fuse/s are the ones in the rear enclosed portion of fuse box, right? They are fine.
I was looking at one of those blower motor repair kits (new brushes) and wondered if anyone has tried it? I'd like to fix it the cheapest way possible since it is not a major part of car and I am short on $$$$ right now.

Any thing else I should check before pulling out blower motor?

Thanks

Angel

BLOWER FUSE:
There are 2 fuses (at least on my car)
One is located in the fuse box with all others.
The second fuse is located outside the fuse box, near the left/front wheel suspension tower and is enclosed in a small black plastic box. It is a flat fuse, held by 2 screws.
I almost had my blower motor replaced unnecessarily by a large Mercedes dealer when they diagnosed it had failed. Good thing they did not have it in stock.
In about 30 seconds, my local independent shop found the real problem.... the flat fuse was blown.
$1.50 later, I was on my way with a perfectly running blower motor.
Your non-functionning blower moter could also indicate a problem with your climate control panel.
Good luck

That fuse on the fender is fine. And my switch panel is opening air flaps for hot and cold, etc. just no blower motor at either speed. I guess I'll order the kit and give it a try. I am very familiar with solder and brushes anyway.

Go ahead and check where the fan plugs in on the firewall (above the expansion valve, a 3-lead connector).

I had a 300E fan quit once and it was simply a bad connection at that plug.

Thanks Brewtoo. I will check out and clean that connection.

I am getting proper voltages and ground at the 3 prong connection behind/above brake booster so I guess that my motor is probably dead.

Anything else I should check before I buy the parts?

Power at 3 prong only means you have a good PB unit and trigger voltage to the blower regulator.
To test regulator, you must ground the blue wire at the blower . If blower works, reg is bad, not the blower.

Thanks Arthur. I'll give it a shot this this week when I have some spare time.
