OVP in a 201

Hey all,
I have (had) a dead battery, no tach or outside temp gauge. Me thinks it's the OVP from what I've learned doing some searches. I can't tell which thing it is and where the fuses for it are..It is behind the cover behind the battery right??. Here's some added info. The voltage regulator is near new. I cleaned the terminals, charged the battery and it starts fine now but still no tach or temp gauge. To get it home last night we jumped it and I just kept the rpms up and I got home fine but the instrument lights were dim so I kept the headlights off. I'm not sure if it is charging or not..I suspect not. It does sound a little funny in the area near the powersteering pump but I cant tell what it is..This is the opposite side of the block from the alternator btw.

any ideas?

Well,
I guess I found the ovp as it was relay shaped with a clear top and an intact 10a fuse in it. Does that help point to anything?

First thing you need to do is check the charge output from the alternator, you will need a multimeter or a voltage gauge, you can buy a reasonable one from your local parts shop, check voltage at the battery posts, should be at least 13.5 volts upto around 14.5 volts, if it is any less than 13 volts you then need to check it at the terminals, if it's still less than 13 v you will need to first check the alternator belt (is it tight and not slipping?) if thats ok, then you can be fairly certain you need your alternator repaired. with the multimeter you can also check all grounds, check from batt - post to eng block, then check from batt - post to body (find a bolt or body ground mount) with eng off, key out and all doors shut you should get a low reading of around 1-6 ohms resistance, if it's any higher you need to fix/clean all grounds. :)
