Unhappy 420 sel stops running

Hello Everybody,

So I am driving my Benz, suddenly out of the blue she stops running, like some one turned the ignition switch.

Checked for spark and there was none, let car sit for 30 min. and she starts right up, then 5minutes later shuts of again.

when I bought the car it did not come with the overload relay or ignition controle unit, picked up a used one (thank God for 100,- not 2000,-) and have been running it with out the overload relay, for 2 weeks now, then suddenly this is happening.

Heeeeeeeeeeelp

thanks,
George 420 sel 1986 320000 miles and running like a champ.
once I get this fixed.

Hot and cold cycling can open and close gaps due to expansion and contraction.

Electronics, like printed circuit boards, are no exception, and can be even more sensitive.

I'd suspect either a connector, or the contol unit, especially since it's spark related, happens suddenly, and you picked up a used unit.

I'll also recommend you put in the overload relay, since it prevents 'frying' of some rather expensive parts, like ABS computer, etc.

Best Regards,
Jim
