Rotary sound from RF wheel-well - 126 car

When car is started, I hear a rotary-like sound, something similar to a helicopter in the distance coming from the right front wheel well. I can actually hear it from just about anyplace around the car, but it's most noticeable if I hold my ear up to the RF wheel-well.

This sound is not coming from the air pump and both motor mounts are fresh - don't have a fan blade making contact with the shroud.

I've put a long 3/8 ext. on various spots on the exhaust manifold and held my ear to the other end - nothing here either.

Car has the 12 valve M103 motor.

Thoughts appreciated.

I have the same sound sometimes. Almost a whistling/whirring noise. It is intermittent and when the car is warmer it stops. Mine is a 126 with the 116 engine (420SEL). I need motor mounts but have replaced the engine shocks. I have also tried to track down the sound but can't find it. Any ideas?

In my case, the sound is not a whistling sound and it never stops. I suspect something is vibrating against another part of the car.

I am guessing but could it be in the suspension? Maybe one of the spring bushings?

dont know if this is helpful but i had a noise sounded almost like a bad exaust leak at start up , upon further inspection i found one of the hoses from the air pump had a 1 inch slit in it, the noise was bad at start and sounded almost like a bearing squeal after warming up , a 3/4 heater hose 90 deg angle fixed it temporarly till i could get the hose from mb , hope it helps
