Help with fuel distributor

I have a 1988 300SEL..mechanic says he thinks the problem might be the fuel distributor..fuel pump et. working good but not getting enough gas to injectors. Is there any good test to perform before spending big bucks?? Anything electrical I could check out?

If I had $100 for everytime someone replaced an FD on these cars without fixing the problem, I could buy a brand new one from the dealer.
