Exclamation Mercedes are Expensive in Europe?

Mercedes are Expensive in Europe??? Last time I went to germany, most cars, all busses, trucks, heavy trucks, you name it, if it had 4 wheels it was mercedes. But there expensive for parts???? I thought the Mercedes brand was like getting parts for a Pontiac in North America? While I know its not no Geo Metro of Europe, I thought no one would complain about Mercedes parts in Europe. If you own a S-Class perhaps the part pricing would be similar to what we pay for Cadillac parts. Then again, mercedes is engineered to be the best in the world...price: arm, leg and heart...

In some cases, yes, in others, no.

You can compare the prices of any web seller and he'll be cheaper on some items than another web seller, but not on ALL items.

aplusparts.com offers individual mfg. selection for a part..ie..Behr or Wahler for the thermostat. At ********, they list Behr/Wahler, but you don't have the option to select which one. They'll send the cheapest one. Been there...no thanks.

az's offers shipping for $50 orders vs. aplus' $75, but in the end, it's the "quality" you get that matters. When I order from aplusparts, I know exactly what I'm getting. Forward thinking people look down the road and just don't order 1 oil filter and a set of spark plugs.

I have found them to be 10%-20% cheaper than most if not all other WEB sellers. They are reliable and sell first rate OEM stuff. I've never had a problem with them.
I just got a box of stuff from this outfit. They sent me a Graf water pump instead of the Laso I had ordered, an Elring transmission filter Kit instead of Febi, and the INA/Febi-Bilstein Accessory Belt Tensioner instead of the Laso. They also forgot to ship one of the two 87 cent water pump o-rings... luckily the pump came with another one. The multi-rib serpentine belt was the correct Conti brand and the tensioner shock was Stabilus, so other than the o-rings, those were the only two items I actually specified that showed up as I expected.

So I guess if you're set on getting exactly what you ordered from them, you might want to look elsewhere.

"...Lastly, I'm shocked there's so many American parts companies with Online sites, yet I havn't found a Single good Canadian one. I called customs canada, and I've been told, if I order parts from the US, I will be charged duty for them if they are not manufactured in either the US or Mexico....like come on this is a mercedes, most of the parts are from europe....maybe that's why the parts are so expensive..."

Hey Trueog, you're in B.C., I'm in Ontario. Yes, Canadian Auto Web Dealers are conspicious by the absence! Recently I priced an A.C. Receiver/Dryer for my '84 300SD at the local MB dealership - get this: their price was Can$213.00 plus GST and PST (total of 15%). My sister-in-law who lives in L.A. priced the same part for me at her local MB dealer and was quoted US$74.00 !!

BTW., I had always thought that Mercedes was a signatory to the Can/US Auto Agreement. Did Canada Customs indicate how much percent duty would apply on non- North American made parts (probably 15%)? And, would we have to also pay 7% GST?

I live in Canada as well, and whenever I fill up in Detroit, my car doesnt like to start well. Its pretty funny that whenever I fill up in Canada, I never have a problem. Then when I fill up in detroit, the car just runs like crap. I added water remover last time and it seemed like it helped a lot.

Hello everybody,
I live in denmark, and I have a old mercedes (1990) and I maintain it my self. I have always maintaind my cars my self, and are now pleased by the sparepart prices for mercedes, they are cheap compared to example VW or american cars for that matter. I also discovered that it is cheaper to buy orginal parts! If you don't believe me try to take a look at this link... http://www.autoimport.dk Its a danish company that sells both new and 2nd. hand parts. The prices are in danish kroner, so a little help is that a dollar costs around 6,5 kroner. An example:

http://www.autoimport.dk/images/reservedele/dele/1243300803.jpg costs 50$ (331,- dkr) the same part for a VW golf 1996 costs twice as much So atleast in denmark marcedes parts are cheap.

Another thing..... A mercedes needs just as much attention as any other car, don't let anyone tell you different. There is no doubt in my mind that Mercedes makes the best cars in the world, but it you forget to maintain them, they breake down, just as any other car. Its still made from metal, and things turn around inside it just as in any other car, so offcouse it needs to be maintained.
