vibration in steering wheel
the car is a c200 1997
the problem i have is a vibration in the steering wheel when i press the brake pedal while driving. what could be causing this? i have new front tyres which were balanced correctly. the brake pads are not worn as the sensor light is not on yet, could it be the rotors ?-(we call them brake discs here in england,u.k..) your comments would be appreciated thanks |
Your rotors are warped.
We use both terms in the U.S. (rotors and discs.). :) |
I agree with suginami ..... Be sure the wheels bolts are always properly torqued.
..... but worn tie rod ends can also create the same feeling as can bent wheels and even tires improperly mounted. Also check your steering dampener (if you have one). Haasman |
You might have 'warped' rotors, but you might also have 'warped' tires.
Be sure that the tires are completely round, and do not have uneven wear patterns that could cause vibration. If in doubt, rotate them and see if the vibration changes. Best Regards, Jim |
thanks for your comments and quick response.
since i have new tyres, which are correctly torqued and balanced, then it must be the rotors as they have done about 70 k miles . i have bought some discs, brakes and sensors made by ATE ,which my mechanic will be fitting for me. |
i replaced the old rotors, brake pads and sensors-
on examination-the old rotors(discs) did look warped all the wheel vibration in the steering wheel only when braking has completely gone-so problem sorted out! |
