190e intake
The intake on the 190e looks like a space shuttle on top of the engine. I have seen many pictures of modded intakes which eliminates the space ship and all of the vacuum cleaner hose attachments. Has anybody done this to there car, and if so where could I buy something to do this (other then ebay)
Here is what I'm talking about: |
Others have done it, but the general concensus is that that intake isn't taking in any cold air; the filter element is too far in the engine compartment. That means it would be taking in hot air, which will hurt performance, economy, and (possibly) engine life. Lots of topics posted on 190Rev, and probably a lot more here. Search under m103, cold air intake.

You actually make this yourself, or at least I would cause $135 is a rip off big time.
I'm not sure about all parts, but if I remember correctly, the boot comes from a VW Jetta 91 year I think, I have one in my garage, and the rest is an intake kit for a Ford Focus, or was that the kit that 2phast made for his w201, I don't remember exactly so maybe someone can help out with the other parts. Other then the boot you just need the big pipe and a filter to go at the end. xp |
the boot is the hardest part... :(
As long as the pipe is directed well, I imagine it can take in plenty of cold air. Im thinking if it goes to the bottom of the compartment just under the fender it should be fine. If the boot can be found on a Jetta I can probly get one for a few bucks at a junkyard. |

only problem is I dont know the diameter of the opening... |
You can always check out 2phast's site under Engine Performance Mods (?) to see how he made his.
|
not bad but it seems like a boot would make that job a lot easier...

Does anybody know the dimensions of any of these intake boots?
