I just bought a 1994 S320. It has 81,000 miles.

This morning, just before I left the house, one of my kids rolled down the right rear window. Now it won't go up. I tried pulling with the power switch depressed. It moves about a quarter of an inch up, but that's it. (I can hear the servo running in the door.) When I move the switch in the other direction, it moves down a quarter of an inch.

The problem is I am 75 miles from the nearest dealer. In addition, it's raining and isn't supposed to stop until Wednesday!

How can I fix this?

You will need a window regulator to repair this. I have replaced hundreds. I am sorry, this is not a do it yourself project. You have to drill out the rivets and reinstall them. They require a special tool to do so.

You will have to go to an independent or a dealer.

Dsmith,

Donnie is right, this is not exactly DIY! You can do it if you are determined.... I put one in my 300D. Took forever, and a lot of cussing, but I DID IT!

For now, you can nudge the window closed. Open the door, stand with one hand on each side of the door, and place your hands together with the window between your palms. Gently lift the window closed. It will slowly move up, just be careful not to force it too much. If the regulator is what is shot, this will not damage anything that is not already gone. It also helps if someone can push the UP button while you lift.

Good Luck,

Okay, I'll see if I can nudge it up.

It's a little disconcerting to buy the car on Friday and have this go out so soon. Fortunately, the car is StarMark certified.

Is this typical on Mercedes? I mean the car only has 81,000 miles?

I bought mine from the MB dealer (with 80k miles) and it was not starmark. You will find along and along some little nitpicking items that come up. I just fix them along and along and enjoy the ride.
