1984 300td wagon front spring or strut? Help!
 

Hi while driving along today I noticed a new sound coming from the front drivers side suspension. Whenever I went over a bump I could hear the springs or something go squeak squeak. :confused: I got out of the car and pushed down on the drivers fender and bounced it and got the same squeaky sound. :confused: When I went to the other fender and did the same thing there was no sound??

Any suggestions at all would be appreciated. Anyone know what is going on and what it would take to remedy it? :)

Does it squeak or groan when you turn the wheels? If so, definitely the ball joint on the noisy side, usually the lower but can be the upper.

Otherwise, it's probably a bad track rod bushing (MB calls them guide rods) on the firewall end, probably clunks or groans on bumps on that side. Will eventually start to thump on going from drive to reverse as well, along with steering looseness.

agree with Peter, but also look for leaking shock, lots of rubber bushings, check all for wear, signs of demise
