560sl limited slip differential swap into a 450sl
Could a "limited slip" 560sl differential be successfully transplanted into a earlier 450sl since they are both 107 chassis cars ? Is it a bolt on deal, or would extensive mods be required ? I need the limited slip option on my 1979 450slc 5.0. Thanks !

idont know
i suspect yes.
according to my mb buyers guide, your 450 would carry a 307. the 560 is a 247. so that will give more relaxed cruising but give a little less grunt on takeoff. tom w

I think the 450 5.0 slc has a shorter rear-end similar to the 560, but I could easily be mistaken... Haven't researched in a while. The 380 had as an option available, a limited slip. You might find one at a salvage yard or similar. It was a taller gear than the 450 if I recall correctly. Jon Hodge has a 5.0 with rear end he is scrapping/parting out. Look up jono.mbfans.net and e-mail him...

yeah
i missed that it was an slc 5.0. it wouldnt surprise if it is different. the book shows the 380 as the same as the 560, 247. later 450 sls had a 265, after '79.
so it could be about anything. since the slcs were raced and ralleyed i suspect that you might find a number of different ratios available depending on what kind of conditions it might be used under. good luck tom w

According to my research, I offer the following (all automatic tranny ):
560----------2.47:1 LSD standard equipment 380----------3.27:1 450----------3.07:1 *450---------3.06:1 US 1979 *450---------2.65:1 US 1980 450SLC 5.0---2.72:1 Like T Walgamuth said, the 450SLC 5.0 was a hybrid, fresh from the rallye stables. Ratios may have been many! The above info from ourSL.com... Your research may vary.
