Well done, a work of art indeed. I admire your talent for sticking with it asnd seeing through to the end. A rather curious choice of engine though IMHO, but a masterspiece of ingenuity none the less. Again, well done ! |

Nothing Sacred Here, Just 10+ craftwork
This guy is one motivated genius. The ability to visualize well enough to fabricate stuff like this is not a widely held talent. It could have been a 3 cylinder Geo metro in there and I would still be impressed. That it is a 4300 roller engine, that is not cheap (where'd you get that anyway?) Makes it an expensive gamble. I don't have the nerve for such a high dollar erector set project. I totally admire the courage and confidence required to even attempt it. Sacrilage?, only if you replace the jesus on the dashboard with a shift light/tach.

Pix...
Hi there,
I changed ISPs, and lost my web site, so will have to upload the pix to the new one - I'll try to get hot and do that so you can see what I did. The car still hasn't needed any work at all since the conversion, runs great, and is a terrific daily driver - comfortable, plenty of power, and, since I left the 300D badge on the trunk lid, I'm sure it surprises people that think it's going to be a slow car at the lights, which it's not - with the low first gear of the T700R it is a real jackrabbit, will hold it's own with any V6 and most of the V8's. (4.3 liters is a good-sized V6 to have in a fairly light body.) Regards. Richard Wooldridge '82 300D/4.3L V6 |

Here's the URL for the Mercedes engine swap...
Hello all,
Here's the URL: http://alaeloa.net/richard/mercedes.htm Sorry to be so slow, for awhile I thought I had lost the pages, but found them on my backup machine. If you have an old PC, put a big hard drive on it, and copy everything you have to it!! Worked for me! Regards, Richard Wooldridge '82 300D/4.3L V6 Etc... PS - if you have trouble viewing the pages, let me know, also, I think this site is on Maui, so it might take a microsecond faster to load. |

By the way...
Hi again,
I see I need to update some info on that page, don't use the email address on the page, it's no longer good! Just post your feedback here. Thanks, Richard Wooldridge |

Ditto everything that was said earlier; it's a beautiful job!
There has to be a certain temptation to take it in to a Benz dealer and drop it off hurriedly for an oil change--just to wait for the puzzled call once they get under the hood. Alternatively, to a GM dealer, rushing the writeup guy through the routine, with something like "I know it's a Mercedes, but all I need is an oil change--surely you guys can do that!"

Richard, I tip my wrenches to you for a fine looking job indeed. I personally don't think I would do a swap with mine unless, like you, it was a tired diesel. I agree with cdbo that you should take it to a dealer for an oil change just to see the reaction I am wondering though, what are you planning to put on the boot-lid, 4300 CHVY perhaps. Also, good choice on an engine, folks have been putting Chevy engines in Fords for years. OOPS, that might start a feud but .......

Password needed?
Richard -
I just tried the link and got a "You are not authorized to view this page" instead. Has the conversion process become classified? I guess I could just run down to BG in a few hours and take a look, but then I'd be neglecting my own project (I'm still at the "mo' paint prep" stage). |
