Start...stall. Start....stall. Start....stall.
 

Anyone experience a similar cycle?

The car will start right up, but immediately stalls. It has been doing this intermittently for the past few weeks. Drives fine otherwise. No stalling at stops or any other time. If I hold the revs, after starting, and gently let off, it stalls. Once I put it in gear and move, no stalling.

BUT FIRST........ WHAT KIND OF CAR DO YOU HAVE?!?!?!?!

usually stalling would occur AFTER the car has been put in DRIVE (D gear selection)

Does it do it when warm, cold, or both?

It seems to be something with the idle....

could be...

Vaccum leak
Over voltage protection relay (O.V.P. on this forum!)
Idle control valve

I GUESS one or more of these may be the problem....

Do a search in this forum,

Idle Control is not functioning.

Idle speed screw setting on carburetor.

Idle control air bleed on throttle body EFI.

Idle speed servo on EFI.

Idle rack postion on diesel.

etc.

It is an 87 190e.

Must be something in the idle circuit. ICV is fairly new. OVP is newer.

It's more likely to occur during a cold start, but its does it while hot. Again it is intermittent.

Vacuum leak would cause it all the time and I wouldn't the idle be elevated?

I am going to recheck the continuity on the throttle switches, but I doubt its that simple.

Intermitant problems may point to cracks in the circuit board of the fuel relay. Pull it out, take off the top cover and examine the back of the circuit board with a magnifying glass. You may discover circular cracks around a pin or pins of the components soldered to the board... usually the heavier components of the board... eg the points and electro magnets. If so... a drop a solder will cure the problem.

But it does sound more like a OVP/idle control problem

Try bleeding the injector lines at the fuel distributor. Need to be VERY careful doing this, but you may find a whole bunch of junk coming out.
