90' 300e The problem is ; the starter won't turn over. I have recently changed the serp belt, oil pan seal and exhaust manifold gaskets. when I was done the "Black Beauty" would not start. I proceeded to change the starter however, same result it would not turn over.
I have checked the voltage to the main terminal and it is there, however I do not have voltage at the primary when I crank her up. All the fuses are good in the fuse box under the hood. Now Im thinking its a relay......... I would appreciate any advise.

I'm not a tech, but it sounds like a wire is not hooked up or a relay or fuse has a problem.

Have you checked your fuses and or relays?

If you were working on the engine, did you unplug anything and forget to hook it back up?

Hope that helps,

Alon

What year car?? Starting in 1993 there is a starter interlock relay. Before that it goes from ignition switch thru neutral-safety switch(on trans) to starter.

I'm with Ashman on this. Whenever you do some work and something that was working fine, ceases to work fine, go back to the area where you were working. Check your battery cables. Did you knock something loose somewhere. I would expect that a thorough, visual inspection would turn up the problem. The odds are not very good that the starter just decided to quit at this particular time.

If the visual inspection doesn't turn up anything. Check for voltage at the big cable on the starter. It should be there even with the ignition off. With that voltage there, hook your voltmeter or test light to the primary wire to the starter and see if you have voltage when you turn the key. If not trace the circuit backwards, especially the neutral safety switch like MB Doc said.

Good luck,
