dash lights out
 

on a 1990 300sl my dash lights went out and the dummy light went on (exterior light out light) I did find my passenger marker and tail light are out. I checked all fuses and they appear good. any other guesses as to what would make dash and marker lights go out. thanks

i forget to mention, i checked the bulb in tail light and it is fine.

Is your trip meter also the dimmer switch for the dash lights? If it is, then if you recently reset the trip meter, you may have turned off/down the dash lights. The dimmer switch resistors also have a tendency to go bad on the earlier versions - not sure about the SL's.

thanks for the tip, i couldnt figure out how to dim the lights. I took out the fuse that works all the out lights. while it was in it looked fine, but soon as i touched it the fuse crumbled. i put in a new one and everthing works.

had the same problem the other day, all dash and control knob switch lights went out. All fuses were Ok. Traced the problem to the back of the rheostat where i needed to resolder a connection. No idea why it failed but there you go, maybe it got too hot
