Outside Temp Sender Connection

Hi Y'all -

Quick easy question, and I can't find the answer using the search function.

The outside temperature readout on SWMBO's 1993 300E has started reading too low following a good wash and degreasing of the engine compartment. I'm guessing there's some corrosion on the plug connection between the sensor and the dash unit. A quick unplug, some contact cleaner, and all is good again.

But there's the rub. I can't find the silly thing. Tracing the wires through the engine compartment, it appears to run into the fuse box. Is the plug in the bottom of the fuse box, below the fuses?

According to the ETM connection locator on the 124 shop manual CD, the connection is over near the component compartment, near the battery. This doesn't seem right, the wiring does not go anywhere near there. Also, the picture in the shop manual doesn't look anything like that part of the underhood area. So I'm assuming this is an error in the manual.

So, who knows where to find this thing on a middle-production 124 sedan?

Thx,

- JimY

If I remember correctly, I read in a post (a while back) that the connector is indeed under the fuse block.
I cannot confirm or deny it since I have never investigated.
Maybe someone else can chime in.
Good Luck

I replaced my sender last year (to no avail, since the dash display is the one that's faulty).

The connection is under the fuse box. You need to unclip and remove the top panels, then remove the screws that reside in the fuse compartment below...I think there are four.

This will allow you to pull the fuse box upward. The sender has two prongs.
