My friend broke the T-belt in his '87 325is

I only say he did it because he more or less knew it was bad but didn't do anything about it.
It snapped on him while he was at a stop sign. Unfortunately, he used the starter motor to crank the car out of the street into a parking spot.

A mechanic put a new belt on and then reported that the engine wouldn't turn.

Could possibly more than the valves be damaged, ie bent piston rods?
Is it worth it to do a valve job, or is the whole engine toast?

I may be able to help him out and pull the head this summer. Where should I go for a good BMW forum like this great site?

It's a good friend, otherwise I would only feel badly for the poor under maintained Bavarian brother. The dude is a broke musician
Thanks

Sorry to hear that happened...

I am really nervous about timing belts/chains now!

Hmmm, it the engine does not turn, it sounds very serious... I think that bent valves would still allow the engine to turn..... but I am not 100% sure.

Just to have a backup... if there are any junkyards in your area, try to find possible replacements... you know, just to be prepared for the worst...
