I own a 1999 300TD with 15000 miles on the car. Recently I had the oil changed ( at a 4000 mile interval) and the mechanic told me that the engine was a 1/2 quart low. Should a new deisel engine be burning oil or is it just a break-in problem? Thanks

I don't know if this is normal for a new car, but all diesels eat some oil....

I would jump up and down for joy if mine only used 1/2 quart between oil changes

This is only one quart in 8.000 miles. I don't think that there's anyone who would not be pleased with this kind of oil consumption, or more properly termed, lack of oil consumption.

Keep changing it every 4,000 miles and, unless you make lots of short hops, it will stay at this level for ions.

Good luck,
Change oil hot and change oil often,
