R129 Hardtop
This winter the hardtop has rattled predominately rt sided at the region just behind the doors. Cleaned the rubber margins, lubricated same, also the locating pins. Had it to the dealer and an indepenent shop without permanent success. Lubricating shuts it up for about 5 miles and then it progressively worsens. Is there any mechanical solution? such as adjusting the clamps. Did a search without much success. Any ideas ?.

Rattling hard top
Did the top get warped? Check the rubber seals-they may have gotten damaged or hardened. Yes the pull down lugs can be adjusted to pull the top down tighter. For both the rear and side anchors, simply 'shorten' the anchor lug. Loosen the locking nut and turn the lug the appropriate direction, noting the orientation. Retighten the lock nuts.
For the front, you have to remove shims underneath the lug on the top. |
