remove wood trim around ashtray (300E)
Can anyone tell me how to remove the wood trim around the ashtray on a 300E (124)? How is it held on there? I know how to get the ashtray removed, but what about the wood trim? Thanks

I think it just clips on. There are plastic clips attached to the back of the wood. I remember I pulled it half way off by accident once. Take the ashtray out and it will be easier. Be extremely careful, as this is the thinnest piece of wood in the whole interior.

I just finished re-finishing. The ashtray trim piece is very thin and fragile. With the ashtray out of the car and in your hands you will see that the piece clips around the body of the ashtray at the bottom points. On mine it was also held on by staples. You'll see them. You can carefully pry the wood away and it comes right off. Leave the staples in place and on re-installing just gently squeeze them back into the wood.
