I am purchasing a new relay due to the previous post that my car was stalling while coasting, and it also started to happen while at a intersection.

I know its located underneath the battery somewhere. How do I get to it to change the sucker?? Do I have to completely remove the battery? Any precautions I should take??

Man, it blows to have people honking at you at an intersection in a nice Mercedes and people saying "Look at that jerk in his piece of crap MB".

AGRON80, the relay is behind the battery, yes? When you remove the battery all devices that have memory will be lost. Have no fear, EL CHEAPO is here. Do as I and a great number on the MBCA forum. From Radio Shack or where ever, get a cigarette lighter plug and a 9 volt battery snap connecter. Solder the 2 leads from each together keeping the polarity correct. The center nose of the plug is positive. After you've finished this advanced electronics device and have a battery plugged on, plug it into your lighter recepticle. Remove the battery. Turn the ignition switch to the acc. postion. This little Jim-Dangy Gadget will be to your rescue. Happy Trails Beep Beep from Houston, home of a few "EL CHEAPOS"

i do not think you have to remove
the battery to change the relay.
you have enough room to pull it out.

My experience is that you do not have to remove the battery. the question is, which relay is the fuel pump? There are two the same size that sit side by side, and I never learned which was the fuel pump.

Remove the plastic cover behind the battery, and you can get to the relay. There are two small relays on the inboard side of the larger electronic boxes. Get the new relay and replace the one that looks like the new one. They are easily distinguishable because one has a fuse on top and the other one does not.

The fuel pump relay has "kickdown" written on top of it.

The fuel pump relay is the one closest to you when looking from the front. Really easy to change(1 minute)tops

Joel, Argon80 will be happy over not having to remove the battery. When I removed the cover behind the battery, I cleaned that rascal and painted it to match the exterior color. Looks nice and different. Happy Trails Beep Beep from coordinated Houston.

Thanks for the eager response amigo. Pulled the plastic cover behind the battery and had a look back there. Now I'm just waiting for the new relay to come in. Honk Honk right back at ya brother from New York City.....
