My newly purchased '87 300D Turbo has a bad side to side wobble at just about any speed. Kind of feels like the rear end is moving around while driving straight. I had hoped it was just a blown shock on one side or a spring, but my local private M-B repair shop says I need the whole rear assembly. He says all the bushings are dry rotted and the linkage is rusted to the point where they can only be removed with a torch.

Is this my best option?...or is this my only option? Anyone know how much this is going to run me?

Thanks
Jason

Sounds like something I almost never see: a rusty MB. If there are levels of rust such that the subframe is bad then I would advise buying a used rear suspension from a junk yard in Florida or other places where rust isn't a problem.

I would be real sure the rest of the car is worth the effort.

I've decided to replace all the linkages in the rear instead of finding a complete sub frame. The way I see it, the junk yard sub frame may still need new bushings/linkages. New shocks helped a bunch. I can at least drive it in the rain without feeling like I'm going to spin out.

Thanks
Jason

If it wobbles around, have someone check the tires. I have seen tires where you can visibly see the tread path zig zagging down the road. A bad tire could have lead to an early failure of the rear bushings too.
