Hi, hope you can advise. I had a new trans put in approximately a year ago. I have a 190E 2.3 8V with 88,900. Just the last couple of days when I drive,it doesn't seem to know what gear to go into. It goes up and down then finally gets it right a proceeds. It is always sluggish on initial take off. I have been attempting to find out what to do to make it a little speeder. Any ideas on the stumbling? Thank you.

You checked the fluid level? Is the stuff nice and rosey and smells good? or has it turned orange and/or brown and smells icky?

I have a 300sel 3.5 tranny with a bad case of symptoms like you described. I've been told that it's contamination in the valve body.

Hi, thanks for the reply, I checked the trans and the fluid appears to be a light brown, but its full. What do you do if the fluid is contaminated because of the problem you describe?

Light brown means burnt clutches. Does the stuff SMELL burned?

Somebody else will have to second my idea about contamination. Wait for the techs to wake up and have their morning coffee.

Rebuilt a year ago and the fluid is brown? That doesn't sound good.

It doesn't have a smell other than oil. I don't smell anything burning either. I'd better take it back to the shop just to be safe. Thanks guys for your replies. Much appreciated.
