Help-oil gauge is Maxed out on my 190E-16V
1 Attachment(s)
Can someone please tell me why my oil gauge goes all the way to the max when ever I start my car? what could be wrong? I am afraid to drive it, which would cause damage to the engine.

Is this a new occurance? Usually the oil pressure gauge does max out on startup and while on the gas, but slips down, perhaps 1 Bar, while idling after warm.

Rest easy...
...an oil gauge pegged to the max indicates a faulty oil pressure sending device...when it goes bad, the needle goes to "3" simply by turning the ignition on...even without starting the engine. Unless you've suffered catastrophic engine damage recently, your oil pressure is just fine. I had to replace mine on my W124 last year for the exact same symptom. Since it's a different engine I can't tell you exactly where it's located...but it's goes for around $70 and is about a 15 minute DIY swap. |
Thank you guys!! I recently just purchased the car. I have been wanting this car for a long time, now I finally able to buy it, I really want to keep it in as best shape as possible.
Just in case, if it doesn't drop off after warmed up, then what? |
If the gauge is functioning properly, don't worry about it. I doubt the engine would really hold over 3.0 bars of pressure when fully hot at idle.

What the hell temperature is the temp guage reading?
