Emission Testing... Update
I've read many M103 reports on here so I wanted to post an update.
Last year, my car barely squeeked past the NOX test by 2points(1047 allow/1045). HC was high and CO was fine(O2 sensor still working I guess) I was concerned because it had about 7,000 miles since the last tuneup which include rotor/cap/and wires. So, I thought about it all and kept smelling the exhaust with the car hot. I decided it must be slightly rich, but the O2 sensor was working. I measured 3.5k ohms on the temp sensor(bad sensor -replaced). Then, I did 2 tanks with Techron fuel additive good highway speeds. Changed the plugs and put a new O2 sensor in the car(hey 86k is enough on the old one and it was $40), changed the oil. Grand total $130 for everything. Results- amazing! HCppm 18/21 C0 % 0.02/0.05 CO2 dont remember NOX 216/312 (1047 allowable). Hope this is encouraging for others.... I'm in Texas! Michael |
Which temp sensor did you look at? My '87 has squeaked past the emissions test here twice in a row, and I'd be interested to see if I can get it down reasonably.

Temp sensor you want is for the KE injection system. Last one on the head beside the lifting ear.
Make sure you get the cat screaming hot too. I drove mine down the freeway for a good 15 minutes in 3rd, then it went straight into testing- no waiting. I ran inside with the car idling and the lady came out and started the test. Actually, NOX was 86/316 (allowable 1047/1145) Michael |
