Front speakers in frnot stopped working!!

Ok here goes. I have a 1987 190e 2.3-16V and after some steam came out of the front speakers, the front speakers stopped working. I bought new ones and those dont work. Any ideas? Looking for help bigtime!

remove the speakers
determine the color of the speaker wires
remove the radio
disconnect speak wires from the radio
use 9v battery, + goes to one wire and - goes to other one at the radio side

if you hear popping sound when you touch the battery terminal to the speaker wires by the radio then
speaker is fine, and wire is ok
-> time for new radio
otherwise
wire is bad ( since you hav new speakers ( double check speakers are ok,using the 9 v battery)

hope this help.

good luck

Sam

hehe

well, dont I feel like an idiot! The stock fader switch was unplugged and for some reason it was only giving power to the rear speakers only. I was planning on purchasing new speakers any way and now I have em. They are in and everything works properly. THE fader switch was the problem. Thats quite funny.

Thulk,

I need a driver's side speaker for my 1993 190 E 2.3. If your old one is still good I would like to purchase it from you. I believe it is a 3" speaker. Do you still have the old one?

I just took the fader out. I'm making a switch to control the sunroof, but from the console.
