Left Idle Control Valve hose....
Hey everyone, today I was working on my car, and I had the air filter box out to replace the vaccum hoses/ connectors that attach to the idle control valve...
I replaced the white connector and hose that attaches to the right of the ICV, but when I looked at the longer hose that attaches to the left side of the ICV, I backed off like a wuss when I saw how deep it was into the manifod and the fact that some device with a line from te fuel distributor attached to the hose at the bottom.... How do I replace this hose the correct and safe way? The hose is pretty stiff so it might be leaking some vacuum, since there is a slight surge when my car is at idle.... Thanks people!

Do a SEARCH. Look for a post by psfred. He mentioned that it took himself and one other person to pull this off. Other threads here have also mentioned that hose is very tough to change out.
Who knows, maybe the following threads will help: ICV breather hose idle control valve hose Good luck.

I did it on my 300E. It was not too difficult.
I removed the idle control valve, it gave me a lot more space to work with. I then removed one hose at a time. I was sure to add a little lubricant to the hose endings. The lubricant enables the hoses to slide on a WHOLE LOT EASIER. You will need to move your hands in wierd ways to get the hoses on. Be patient, and don't let that silly hose frustrate you.

The only thing holding me back from changing it is the device that connects into the hose from the top and has a metal line coming to it from the fuel distributor...
I do not know how to safely remove this thing... should I just try to remove the two hex screws holding it down and the metal line from the fuel distro or what?

I have to do this on my 300SE. I'm planning on pulling the fuel distribtor, cleaning the throttle body and replacing the large rubber boot under the fuel distributor. Access should be a lot easier with everything exposed and I can also replace the small vacuum lines and couplers as well.
I'm refinancing my house and buying a new one, the wife and I are getting divorced, and I'll be able to do much more work on the car. Things like spark plug wires, distributor caps and exhaust systems cost big bux on these cars. I'm going to buy a spring compressor to R&R the front suspension, properly this time.
