Question Cleaning Exhaust Tube to EGR Valve

What is the correct tool to use to clean the tube from exhaust manifold to EGR Valve on 2000 E320. Searching this forum I've found that this should be done, but I haven't been able to determine the best way to do it?

I removed the carbon deposits from mine with about a #10 wood screw. Slowly turned in it by hand and removed it. Takes about 10 or so iterations to get it all out and clean. Took care of the CE light!
