Doing pads/rotors/pack brearings 95 C280
I'm preparing to re-pack the front bearings on my 95 c280 and wanted to make sure that the grease caps come off by prying like most other rear wheel drive cars. The caps look like the've never been off (80K mi) and they seem very tight.

They are quite tight, but nothing that can't be overcome with a large pair of Channel Lock pliers.
Don't try to knock them off with a screwdriver or chisel, it'll probably punch a hole in the lip of the greasecup. ;) |
Thanks, Manny . I've got a giant set of channel locks that might just do the job :)

You don't need to repack just to do a brake job on this car (as I'm sure you've noticed). May be the original grease in there.
Channel locks or a prybar underneath the lip, don't hammer them side to side to get them out. To install, use a blunt driver on the lip around the bottom of the bell, resist the temptation to tap on the end -- this will cause them to crush, collapsing the mouth, and it will not stay in! Peter |
