thanks bill,
what kind of cost am i looking at to replace the sleeves? i can get them for $20 a piece, but what is it going to cost me to have them installed and bored to my piston size? (btw, i am going to just keep the 1st o/s pistons, the dealer sold them to me at regular piston cost cause i bought so many parts...$1500, ouch) after i get this project done i'm thinking i will make a sticker to put on the end of the "240D" on my trunk. it will now read "240D GT" because of the o/s pistons only kidding of course merry christmas guys WG |

Pistons
To WG, Glad to hear you are about to start putting your engine back together. The last engine I rebuilt was a 1982 300D-Turbo last summer. My machine shop bill was $170. That included removing old sleeves, installing new sleeves and boring to fit new std. size pistons. Of course they thourghly cleaned the block. I spent about $1200 on the engine. The head was in good shape so I didn't have to spend money on it. The injection pump was good so I didn't replace it. I did rebuild the turbo(it was bad). Parts for it cost $22.63 and that included shipping. The car runs great. I'm driving it on a 200 mile trip tomorrow and I have great faith in it. Have fun putting you engine together, just don't despair.
Let me know if I can be of any more help. Glad to lend a hand. Merry Christmas. Bill Lewallen Lexington,Ky. |

thanks again bill. i've already spent $1500 dollars on the engine, and the bill just keeps going up. i'm replacing much more than expected. pistons, cyl head, main bearings, rod bearings, cam shaft, rocker arms, various gaskets.... this cost is less the cost of sleeves and instalation. i think it will be about $250-300 more for this.... its taking a chunk out of my wallet, but i think its worth it in the long run. i love the car, love the way it drives, and its a manual thanks for all your help, i'll be in touch when i cant figure out where things go
