I'm having my local MB dealer install E55 shocks, springs and rear swaybar in my 1999 E300TD- (I've already done the front bar myself.) I know the rear sway bar is a bear to install (remove rear subframe), but I was quite surprised when they said it would take AT LEAST 6 HOURS in labor to install just the rear bar!! Am I getting ripped off here, or am I just out of touch? Should it take that long?
Also, approx how many labor hours should I expect for the install of the front and rear springs/shocks?? If I AM getting ripped off, who should I talk to at the dealership and how should I justify my complaint?? Many thanks! Jay Gibbs |
All 4 springs should be around 3.2 hrs.
All 4 shocks should be around 2.6 hrs Rear sway bar is only .5 hrs with rear sub-frame removed To remove & reinstall rear sub-frame is 5.6 hrs Don't forget to have alignment checked after replacements. |
Many thanks for your response! I do feel better knowing that their labor quote is on target. I have had excellent service from this dealer in the past, but was expecting a much different number of labor hours.
Yes, I am having a 4 wheel alignment as well. On that subject, I have a good question for you! With the E55 suspension installed on my E300TD, should they use the the alignment specs for the E55 or the E300TD- or perhaps are the caster/camber/toe specs the same for both? Thanks again. Jay |
Specs are simular. IF anything go half way between the two. Since these cars don't have cams to adjust the alignment won't come out as close(wider tolerance) as older cars.
