fuel gauge erratic-1985 380SE
 

The fuel gauge jumps back and forth and athen sometimes stays still for a while but then starts the erratic jumping back and forth again. Any ideas what xould cause this? (possibly a short or loose connection?

Had the exact problem in my 300te. The problem was very simple to fix. The plug that attached to the fuel sender had gotten loose and a little corroded. I just removed the carpet and access panel (wagon), and pryed the contacts to make them a little tighter. That was two years ago and has been perfect since.
