420SEL- reliable engines? (1987)
I am sure it has been discussed and discussed- I did a search with no luck and a little low on time. I am considering a 1987 420SEL and wondering about the engine in these cars. I think I remember reading something bad about them before, but I may be wrong? Was it bad oil seals or headgasket woes? It has 250K, but it priced right and has been well maintained. Thanks in advance.

How did that clean W126 you posted a while back work out?

Find out when the chain and rails where last replaced. Listen for ticking at idle. Inspect the cams for wear if feasable. In my opinion those are the weakest areas (chain/rails and cam/lifter wear).
I haven't heard anything about headgasket or oil seal woes.
